Lines from A popular old song go like this: How can you mend a broken heart? How can you stop the rain from falling down? How can you stop the sun from shining? What makes the world go round?" February is what others call the love month. Others consider it a lucky month even if the number of days vary depending on whether it falls on a leap year or not. Some who have a special someone to share the Valentine's Day celebration with consider it a romantic month for lovers. But what if you are single, separated, annulled, divorced or your partner chooses to spend the special day with another person, how do you mend your broken heart?
LISTEN When you're all alone, do you listen to romantic ballads that deepen the hurt and make you cringe in pain and misery? What if you choose to go out and find a quiet place to stay and be by yourself? Learn to drown the noise that says "You are worthless! You're unlovable! You're nobody!" Instead, listen to the voice inside you that says "You are worthy! You're loved! You're special!" You are beautiful because you have been created in the image and likeness of God. You are beloved because Jesus already gave up His life for your sake and to save you from sin. You don't need another person to say otherwise. You already believe that you are all those and more because you choose to listen to the truth that comes from the word of God. OBSERVE Take the time to go to the park and imagine yourself like a child who plays and runs without a care in the world. Appreciate the beauty of nature . Observe how certain plants look up and follow the rays of the sun. See how the little branches sway as the wind blows in one direction. Take a walk and go barefoot on the grass. Learn to see everything with the eyes of a child, i.e., with awe and anticipation about the wonder of God's creation. VOICE If it is not enough for you to listen then it is time to voice out your thoughts aloud or through written words if you are shy to say them. What should you say or write? Every time you wake up in the morning, say these words aloud or write them down in your daily journal. "Thank you, Lord, for a brand new day to adore You, glorify You, praise You and worship You in everything I think, say and do. Thank you for your great unconditional love, warm embrace and watchful eyes. I am totally, perfectly and completely loved. I am God's servant. I am God's beloved. I am God's powerful champion. I am blessed so I can be a blessing to others. I am forgiven. I am accepted. I am a child of God. I am worthy in God's eyes. EMBRACE Each person has been gifted with senses, some of them more heightened than the others especially when there is a deficiency in one of them. A child learns to make full use of them through the years of exposure or practice. But what if one of them has been blunted like the sense of feeling because no one dares to touch them for fear of being mislabelled or misconstrued or simply because their parents neglected them. If this happens to you, you begin to look for another person or thing to satisfy this inner craving to be touched and loved. But what if that significant other left you for somebody else? Will you be scarred for life? It is time to embrace yourself as well as feel the loving arms of God envelope you because He will never leave you. You can also embrace a tree and feel the stability as your feet are settled on the ground because you are rooted on the spot and can feel the magnetism underneath. Be thankful that you are alive. A part of life’s lessons is to get hurt and recover from the pain. Hold on to God's promise that you will meet the right person in the right place and in God's perfect time. But first you have to fill your empty love tank with God's love because you cannot give what you don't have.
Follow the two greatest commandments from Matthew 22:37-39: "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and he first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." How do you mend a broken heart? Just L.O.V.E.
