Dra. Joy: Lifestyle Medicine Physician

Doc Joy has been a physician for more than 30 years. For the first 20 years of her private practice as a physician, she has applied the conventional therapy for which she has been exposed to as a medical student and has been trained during her residency at the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital, Taft Avenue, Manila. She has seen individuals from infancy to adulthood, with different health issues, especially those affecting the whole family. For the past ten years of her private practice, she has decided to apply a wholeness approach to help her patients.

Doc Joy, as she is fondly called, is a lifestyle medicine physician who has been empowering individuals to take charge of their own health and to awaken the healer in themselves. She believes that everyone can be a MD ("mukhang doktor" or like a doctor) in their own homes. She teaches that chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, diabetes and even cancer can be prevented, arrested and reversed using lifestyle changes which include a healthy diet, regular exercise, enough sleep, love of nature, positive attitude and stress management, more so with faith in God. She helps cancer patients and their families cope with the disease.

Her mission is to help cancer patients avoid recurrence of cancer by balancing medical & non-medical solutions based on her experience of 30 years and a cancer survivor for 10 years. She has handled over 216,000 patients in the last 30 years of her practice. She has also been a guest speaker on Methods to Cope with Cancer in Metro Manila, Cebu, Bataan, Bacolod, Ormoc and other provinces. She is also a regular lecturer on cancer care and prevention and an active medical staff at Calamba Medical Center and 3H Cancer Recovery Center in Calamba City, Laguna.
